About Me

Pono, the dog.

Hello!  Thanks for stopping to visit!  I am an artist, and I live in the high desert of Joshua Tree, California with my husband and fuzzy dog.  I consider myself an abstract artist, but I paint people and the things I see in the desert that I find beautiful.  You can see more of my art on my website - karineswenson.com.

I have a deep love of the outdoors, but I do not like to paint outdoors.  I prefer to hike, run, surf, swim and be active when I am outside.  I am afraid I just don't have what it takes to be a plein air painter.  My hat's off to those brave souls!  I like to work inside my studio, music blasting, paint flying.  I work in oil, pastel, and I love to make monotypes.  (A cross between printmaking and painting.)  I occasionally teach drawing and painting.

I love to read books and listen to music.  Writing is another form of expression for me, and since I have friends and loved ones far away, this blog has become a way for me to write letters about my life that interested people can read.  If you like what you are seeing and reading, feel free to leave a comment or email me and let me know what you are enjoying so I can do my best to make this blog a pleasure to read.  Thanks again for reading my blog:  I do love my readers!
