Surprise

After several days of oppressive humidity and heat, today a thunderstorm finally crashed into our desert day.  Pono the dog is terrified of thunder, and has remained shivering and unhappy in the laundry room all day.  I had to go outside, feel the coolness of the wet air, and watch the lightening rip across the sky.  Thrilling!

Here is the first painting of the new series.  "Surprise."  Oil on canvas, 24 x 18 inches.
It's all about the ears, really.

I have some exciting news - some of my figurative work has been included in a book written by my friend (and amazing artist), Carla Sonheim!  The book is called Drawing Lab for the Mixed Media Artist, and it is available here.  Now for the surprise part - I am giving away a copy of this book right here on my blog!!!  You are most certainly wondering "how do I get a chance to win this book?"  It's easy!  Just leave a comment, explaining why you would like to own a copy of this book, and next Thursday, July 22nd, I will pick a winner from the comments.  So you have one week to leave a comment!  Good luck, and be sure to hop on over to Carla's blog for more book-related info, and to tell her Congratulations!

Yes, yes please put me into the draw. I love the look of the simple drawings on the cover and if your work is included in the book that would be the cherry on the top for me.

I have fallen in love with your hare (that wide eyed expression and I swear i can see it's nose twitch!)and am looking forward to more paintings in the "Surprise" series. What fun!

Just got back from Carla's site. What a great book, and how absolutely good of you to promote it. And of course she included your work, she's a smart cookie, and your work is wonderful!

I would love to be included in draw for this wonderful book.
I would dearly love to be able to draw but I seem to be held back by lack of confidence - a book like this would help me to give things a go I think - this book would give me a place to start.

I would love to win this book! Everything looks so amazing and inspiring, starting from the cover: so simple and yet so beautiful.
And the fact that it portrays the work and insights from several talented artists is just such a gift!

I love art, I love been drawned into someone's painting, drawing or art work and just let myself enjoy it and get inspired by it and by the passion in it.

It would be great for me and my child, Julia (4), who loves to paint. We would then compare how she and I differ in the ways we see and paint/draw things.

Please put me in the drawing. I love to draw but not very confident about it. The book looks like it has some wonderful ideas.
The hare catches just the way thunder makes me feel. LOL

Oh...to win this book would be a fantastical happening in my life. I've put aside my art for a couple of years, and am ready to dive into it again. Abstract mixed media on canvas is my media of choice and to draw...oh - the intimidation of it all!!! Always been envious of other artists who have the skill. I just purchased the Collage Lab book last week, and LOVE the format and the jumpstarts for inspiration. Just discovered your blog and will put with my Google reader for updates. Thank you for the chance to win this awesome book. I think my time to draw is in the near future...!
