Thirst

July in the desert.  Everyone is thirsty.
A Family of Gambel's Quail.
A Cottontail.
Jackrabbit.
Antelope Ground Squirrel.
Cactus Wren.  My favorite desert bird.

There was a roadrunner drinking yesterday, but they are so dern fast, I didn't get a photo.  Maybe next time...

It's not too late for the giveaway of my friend Carla Sonheim's book!  For those of you who didn't read my last post, Carla featured some of my figurative art in her book.  It's called Drawing Lab for the Mixed Media Artist, but even if you aren't a mixed media artist, you will love the exercises in this book.  Sonheim's book features a number of talented artists, and of course you will get to see lots of her wonderful art, too.  So if you think you'd like a shot of winning a free copy, simply leave a comment, stating why you'd like to win.  The drawing is this Thursday.
Here is one of my pastel paintings featured in the book.

Have a terrific week, everyone!  As always, thanks for stopping by.

I enjoyed visiting your blog. Wonderful portrait, and wonderful jackrabbit. I also enjoyed your pictures of the desert animals enjoying a drink. The desert is such a different environment then where I live (Canada's North), so I loved seeing your pictures. I would love to win a copy of Carla's book - I do already have one, but would love to have another to give to a friend that I know would enjoy it.

I would love to read this book, I have tried to get it here in the UK but to no avail, even the library doesn't hold a copy, so to win it would be wonderful. Thank you for a wonderful giveaway ~ Julie

I love all the critters stopping by to have a drink some of them I have never even heard of before. Your pastel painting fills me with awe - it's just wonderful! I have already put my name down for the book - I think it would help overcome my self doubts and fear if I had something to work through.

I love these images of the little animals getting a drink. How kind of you to provide water.
Your painting is strong. I was not aware of this book. Drawing is something I could improve upon!

This looks like the water dish parade at our house, too! Love these photos, also your photos of the king snake awhile back.

A book about drawing that includes your work sounds like heaven...it would help me prepare for my next incarnation, or who knows, maybe speed up the process!

Your figurative work is inspiring. You really know how to "see" people.

I've kept up with your blog a long time, although I've never commented before. These pictures are just tops! The little ground squirrel is trying soooo hard!
I'd love a copy of Carla's book, as I'm exploring mixed-media in my studio - a new challenge for me.

The little ground squirrel on tippy toes is classic.
Holding thumbs for the lucky draw.
