Who I am

Here is the self portrait in oil I have been working on. I may work on it a little more, but it needs to sit for a while first. The idea was for it to be a portrait in words as well as image. It didn't turn out quite the way I envisioned, but I am feeling okay about it. It is the first portrait I have done in oil that I actually like (parts of it, not all of it.) It measures 40 x 30 inches, and it is oil and charcoal on linen. For a closer view of it, you can click on the image.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

hey Karine! your last several figure posts have been really inspiring to me. drawing the figure is my all time favorite thing to draw, but since i live 50 minutes from the class and i don't drive, it's difficult to get there! but you are jazzin me to find a way! it looks like you are having fun. painting/drawing the figure seems so natural for you. i like what you are trying to do with the words/self portrait--maybe it would be fun to try another version all in charcoal and more journal like, to mesh the two...? just a thought. and i love the previous one. really nice!

will you post some short poses/studies (do you do warm ups? like 5-10 minute drawings in class?) i love seeing these.

Karine, I am in awe of your talent. I love that art of yourself. I read the words and thought now I know a little about her. I to am from a family of three..all of us girls, all lived in different provinces. My older sister died as well heart attack at 55....and I feel that a part of me has gone and is broken....I love that you have your art. And isnt that funny you dream of having your art in a museum, do we all dream of that, because I do to. I think you might be a tad closer to that dream than me.

Hi Karine...wow those portraits are awesome! I also read your writing in the back. That must have been so hard to loose your sister, especially you were so close. A close family member loss would be for me really difficult too, but fortunately I have my art as well, to keep me sane in everyday and hopefully gets me through loosing close people which will happen sometime in my life, but hopefull not soon.
Smiles your way, Anke ;)

Hi Karine, now I am back and can officially comment. These portraits are so emotional and so powerful, not to mention well executed. Very moving work.
