Giveaway!!!

I am excited to announce that my talented friend, Carla Sonheim, has another book out. It is called Drawing and Painting Imaginary Animals and Carla is giving away a signed copy of this book right here! How cool is THAT? All you have to do is leave a comment on this post. On Saturday, I will choose a random comment from this blog and give the winning name and address to Carla, who will mail the book out to one of you. You should also hop over to her blog, since she is having a TWO WEEK blog celebration with more giveaways to come.

One of my jackrabbit paintings is happy to have made an appearance in this fabulous book. Carla and I have known each other for many years. She was one of the artists I represented when I had my gallery, Cool Mountain Art, in Salida Colorado. She is a talented artist, a gifted teacher and a dear friend. Whenever I see her art, I think, "Carla is one of the most creative people I know!" I am always honored to be a part of her endeavors, so when she asked me if I would like to have a spot in this book, of course I jumped at the chance. I have taken a class from her, and I would recommend her classes highly to anyone who wants to grow creatively. I will also mention that this is her second book, and if it is anything like her first book, Drawing Lab for the Mixed Media Artist, it is well worth adding to your library.

"Badass Jack." Oil on canvas, 40 x 30 inches. ©2011 Karine Swenson (This is the rabbit.)

What if you don't want to wait for a chance at a giveaway? If you already know you want this new book, all you have to do is click on one of these links:

I would love to win a copy of Carla's book. I took her Wretched Girl Journaling class at Art Fest a couple years ago. So fun! Thanks for hosting this! It's nice to get to meet some of the artists in the book.

But who can resist a giveaway?! I certainly can't and I was delighted to discover your blog and work via Carla's . Your jack rabbits (are they the same as hares? Or another animal?) are wonderful and I've also been enjoying your abstract paintings.

I love Carla's books and drawing suggestions and would absolutely love to win her new book. I looked at all your rabbit examples, they are wonderful. I agree with your comment about wild animals "our contacts with them are so fleeting." '10Badass Jack' is great, pure attitude.

I am so thrilled to be introduced to your work through Carla!
I LOVE the ink sketches done with a feather!!! Oh my, I have to find a feather TODAY. Having just spent 5 years in Arizona, your incredible jack rabbits really move me (and remind me of Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson's underpaintings). I've been all over the West and really miss the mind-blowing inspiration it offers up in the diverse geography and wonderful creatures. I'm working with Carla on this giveaway also....it is keeping me sane and making me happy. Wonderful stuff, Karine! Best regards, Savannah Dawn O'Brien

I’m excited about adding your Blog to my list of wonderful artists I want to follow in developing my artistic creativity and career. YES - Please enter me into the drawing to win Carla’s latest book. I have a special place in my heart for rabbits. My oldest son was 11 when his younger brother received a baby bunny for his 9th birthday. I was a struggling single mom and my son had been diagnosed with developmental challenges at 7, long before the term high functioning autistic was used. My sweet son struggled with everything but most especially he could not understand why his younger brother and I were so upset when our dear 18 year old terrier died the year before, he could not cry or grieve, he was always so frustrated with life. One day he said he wished he could have a special, cuddly rabbit friend like his brother. He didn't have any friends, was never invited to birthday parties, always alone because he was different. I found a domesticated rabbit rescue organization in our city and we found Fred, a beautiful 2 year old fawn and white spotted lop. Fred jumped into my sons arms like he knew where he was needed, my son let him snuggle in and smiled. Soon we were asked to open our home to 2 more rabbits in need, and for the next 10 years we worked with injured and disabled bunnies in our home. We learned many things through our rabbits but a wonderful unexpected benefit was how much my beautiful son blossomed. He learned compassion, patience and how to cry. He sobbed uncontrollably when a new rabbit was injured by another territorial female rabbit. It was a break in his veneer that changed everything. He opened up to the world and began to grow. My sweet son is 28 now, married and daddy to a 2 year old son. I thank mother-father god for all animals but especially for rabbits, they saved my son. Thank you for letting me share, your beautiful images brought all our dear bunnies friends flooding back into my heart.
